Brightshores Seeks Volunteers for Patient and Family Advisory Committee
Patients, caregivers and family members can help shape care at Brightshores hospitals by joining its advisory committee. Recent lived experience required.

Brightshores Health System is recruiting volunteers for its Patient and Family Advisory Committee, a group that weighs in on hospital policies, patient communication and care experiences across the system’s six hospital sites.
The committee draws on the lived experiences of patients, caregivers and family members to inform decisions about how care is delivered. According to Brightshores, advisors contributed more than 500 hours over the past year to projects including the Emergency Department experience, quality initiatives and patient communication.
“The perspectives of patient and family advisors help us to provide care that is thoughtful, respectful and effective,” Beth Morris, Vice President of Clinical Programs, Quality and Chief Nursing Executive, said in a release. “Their partnership helps to ensure our services reflect the needs of patients and communities of Grey Bruce and guides our efforts to create a more patient-centred experience.”
To qualify, applicants must have been a patient, caregiver or family member at Brightshores within the past three years. The hospital system says it is seeking applicants from a range of backgrounds.
“We encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply,” Jodi Holden, Manager of Patient Relations, said in the release. “The more diverse voices we have at the table, the stronger and more inclusive our system becomes.”
Brightshores has not specified how many advisors it is looking to bring on, the length of the term, or the time commitment expected of volunteers. The release also does not indicate an application deadline.
A report on the committee’s work and the volunteer application form are available on the Brightshores Health System website. Questions can be directed to Communications Specialist Alex Madill at ahmadill@brightshores.ca or 519-376-2121 ext. 2220.
Brightshores operates six hospitals across Grey and Bruce counties, serving a population of about 175,000 permanent residents.
