Art in Our Region: What’s Happening in June
Your June guide to Grey-Bruce arts: new gallery shows in Owen Sound, Wiarton and Saugeen Shores, plus free Harbour Nights concerts starting June 14.
COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTION
This June, Grey Bruce’s galleries and cultural hubs are stacked with things to see. And of course, how can we talk art without looking forward to the takeover of summer nights with sweet tunes across the region kicking off this month?! We’re not limiting ourselves, art is all things expression after all!
Owen Sound Exhibits & Events
Music takes over Owen Sound in summer months, with Harbour Nights starting Sunday June 14 at the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre (aka the Marine and Rail Museum) with award-winning country artist Tianna Woods. The series continues every Sunday night until August 16th and is free to attend.
Meanwhile over at The Roxy there’s everything from choreography workshops to cover acts galore offering up plenty of toe tapping options throughout the month.
And if by chance you’re a young performer, or know one, let it be known, Sweetwater Music Festival, which takes place in September, is inviting classically trained musicians between 15 and 25 to apply to the festivals Young Artist program by June 20.
Over at Grey Gallery there’s an exhibition of new paintings by Cindy Norton. Fragments will run from June 4 – 27 (the opening reception took place on June 6).
Just up the road in the Legacy Gallery at the Owen Sound Artists Co-op Peter John Reid’s Master Class Show is on. If you’re in the neighbourhood make sure to pop over and check out his work alongside the local artists who keep this beautiful space packed with incredible and diverse work.
No exhibition updates at the Tom, where Liz Zetlin’s More Than Human — a year in my garden continues through June 27, alongside Emergence 2026, the local high-school art exhibition, and Forecast, both of which continue until June 20.
Maker Spaces – GB Arts & Grey Bruce Makers
Classes continue over at GB Arts throughout June, with a variety that covers everything from clay to sewing and floral design.
The Grey Bruce Makers will host a festival and craft show June 27th from 11am until 4pm. The event, free to attend, will bring together makers, artists, entrepreneurs, families, local businesses, and community organizations for a full day celebrating creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning.
Wiarton – The Deep Water Gallery
In Wiarton, Deep Water Gallery opens its annual student exhibition – Catalyst – running from June 4th to 17th. June 27th will see the second exhibition of the month open featuring Kate Civero, Becky Comber, Katherine Kennie and curated by local potter Elisabeth Heathfield.
Saugeen Shores – The Southampton Arts Centre & Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre
Southampton Arts Centre has two exhibitions underway until June 20th, Bev Morgan’s Watercolour and Batik in Harmony in the Gallery Studio, and Dawn Anderson Vaughan’s Life in Pastel in the Promenade Gallery. The Centre will launch its second round of exhibits for June on 24th – Sandy Nelson’s Exploring Wildlife: A Global Photography Story and D’Arcy Farlow’s Water and Light, both of which will run until July 18th.
The Centre’s also gearing up to host the 2nd annual Southampton Festival July 31 – August 2 with art, music, theatre, markets and more on offer.
Drive along the shore a little into Port Elgin and you’ll find Taylor Cameron’s Woodland People exhibiting at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre. The exhibition opens June 6 and runs until September 13.
Leith
The opening Gala Concert for the Leith Summer Festival takes place on June 27th with a blend of jazz, classical, and popular music. For tickets and more information go to www.roxytheatre.ca or www.leithchurch.ca.
Closing Thoughts
Summer in Grey and Bruce is a living gallery — from intimate studio shows to waterfront concerts, there’s something to spark curiosity and bring people together.
Take some time to wander a gallery, bring the family to a free Harbour Nights concert, or support a young artist by attending a student exhibition. And hey, don’t forget to share your favourites with the community so the region’s creative scene feels the love, and keeps growing.
