A 35-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a stabbing in Hanover on Feb. 25. Police have arrested a suspect, seized a vehicle in Durham, and say the incident was targeted.
A suspect has been arrested following a stabbing in Hanover that left a 35-year-old man with non-life-threatening injuries, and police say the incident was not random.
The Hanover Police Service responded around 9:30 p.m. on February 25 to the area of 10th Avenue and 12th Street after receiving reports of a stabbing.
Investigators determined the victim, who has no fixed address, had entered a vehicle with a male acquaintance that was being driven by another man. Police say a dispute occurred inside the vehicle, during which the victim was stabbed several times in the face and upper body.
Both men were able to escape the vehicle and fend off the attacker before fleeing to a nearby residence for assistance.
Police report that the suspect fled the scene in a black Ford Explorer with a white roof. That vehicle was later located in the Town of Durham and seized for forensic analysis. Police confirm a suspect has since been arrested in connection with the incident.
In a statement released February 27, Chief Christopher Knoll said the investigation remains active, with several officers assigned.
He noted that while the level of violence is concerning, the incident stemmed from a dispute between individuals known to one another and was not a random act. Police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Hanover Police Service at 519-364-2411 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
