As winter slowly releases its grip and the signs of spring take hold, local naturalists continue to observe, learn, and share the wonders of the season.
In his monthly column, John Dickson of the Owen Sound Field Naturalists offers a wide-ranging look at nature in our region. He highlights upcoming talks on flood forecasting, Earth Day celebrations, and youth programs, while also sharing reflections on remarkable bird sightings, community conservation efforts, and a touching tribute to the late Dennis Lewington.
From a “sweet” outing at a maple syrup farm to Bluebird monitoring and bear photography, April’s edition is full of seasonal observations, inspiring stories, and stunning pictures.

The Owen Sound Field Naturalists (OSFN) club is pleased to welcome John Bittorf of Grey Sauble Conservation Authority (GSCA) as our guest speaker for the April 10 presentation. Bittorf will discuss GSCA’s unique flood forecasting, weather monitoring, and water quality programs—some of which are rare or exclusive in Ontario.
