Canada has spoken. Mark Carney has been elected as our next Prime Minister, and Alex Ruff will return to represent Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound in this new government as our Member of Parliament.
Elections are a moment of decision, but they are a beginning, not an end.
Regardless of how any one of us voted, this is now the government that serves us all. Every Canadian deserves fair representation, and each elected official is accountable to every citizen, not just their supporters.
Our democracy works best when we remain engaged, ask questions, expect transparency, and hold those in power accountable for the promises they make. This doesn’t end with casting a ballot; it continues with how we participate, speak up, and work together to shape the future we believe in.
Congratulations to all the candidates who put their names forward to serve. And thank you to all voters who made their voices heard.
The real work begins now, and it belongs to all of us.
Here at home in Owen Sound and across Grey-Bruce, staying engaged means more than just politics. It means investing in the strength of our own community:
Support local businesses with your shopping dollars. Every purchase helps keep our local economy strong.
Volunteer with service clubs, community groups, and organizations that work every day to make life better here.
Attend local events, markets, and meetings, and help keep our shared spaces vibrant and welcoming.
Grow your community connections. Check in on neighbours, get to know the faces behind businesses, and lend a hand where it’s needed.
Stay informed. Support local journalism by reading, sharing, and contributing.
(Thank you to everyone who sends us letters, photos, and event listings — your stories are part of what makes the Owen Sound Current worth reading! Keep them coming.)
Elections choose governments, and each one presents us with the opportunity for a fresh start.
Staying involved is how we make sure it serves all of us.
