π Happy Earth Week from The Owen Sound Current
Earth Day may be just one day, but the work of building climate resilience is a year-round effort, and Grey County is taking it seriously.
In its latest Climate Action Newsletter, the County shared both sobering data and meaningful ways for residents to get involved. Did you know:
πΏ Grey County is already experiencing warmer and wetter conditions than it did in the past, accompanied by more frequent extreme weather events.
πΏ Local infrastructure, ecosystems, and public healthΒ are being affected, and these impacts are expected to intensify.
πΏ The County is now developing a community-wide climate adaptation plan, and your input is needed.
You can help shape that plan by attending upcoming Resilient Grey Climate Conversations, completing the online survey, or hosting your own discussion using a downloadable kit.
Youth aged 15β24 can also apply for up to $7,000 in microgrants through the Youth Climate Action Fund (deadline: April 30).
Climate change isnβt a distant threat; itβs here now. But so is the opportunity to act. Visit Resilient Grey on the County website to learn more.
In the meantime, donβt miss Owen Soundβs Earth Week festivities hosted by Earth Day Grey-Bruce this Saturday, April 26th, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on 1st Avenue West (between 8th and 9th Streets).
The day includes live youth music, climate action presentations, art exhibitions, and a community parade with the Sauntering Band starting at 2:30 p.m. Events will take place at the Library, St. Andrewβs Church Hall, and the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, offering something for all ages to celebrate and learn.

In her latest dispatch, one of our contributors takes us inside Williams on 26, the newly reimagined restaurant at the Meaford International Airport.
Local Review: Williams on 26 is Serving Up a Classic Menu with Stunning Airport Views
Williams on 26 is the latest iteration of a restaurant at the Major-General Richard Rohmer Meaford International Airport (formerly the Owen Sound Billy Bishop Regional Airport).
The fortunes of this airport, about ten minutes east of Owen Sound, have been up and down over recent years, but this dining venue looks like an investment in optimism.
