Applications Now Open for 2026 Youth in Policing Program with Grey Bruce OPP
The Grey Bruce OPP is accepting applications for the 2026 Youth in Policing Initiative, a paid summer program for local youth aged 15–18. Application deadline: February 13, 2026.

The Grey Bruce OPP is now accepting applications for its 2026 Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI). The paid summer program gives high school students hands-on experience in community service and law enforcement.
Running for eight weeks in July and August, the initiative offers local youth aged 15 to 18 an opportunity to develop leadership skills, explore career paths, and build positive relationships with police and community members. Participants will work up to 40 hours a week in various roles that support both policing and public engagement.
What Participants Can Expect
The YIPI program provides a broad overview of the OPP's day-to-day work while giving students a chance to contribute meaningfully to local initiatives. Tasks may include:
Assisting with community events and educational presentations
Supporting crime prevention and recruitment efforts
Helping maintain cruisers, boats, and other detachment equipment
Participating in foot patrol, positive ticketing, and CamSafe registry promotion
Engaging directly with youth and residents through outreach and safety programs
Who Can Apply
Eligible applicants must be 15 to 18 years old by summer 2026 and enrolled in secondary school.
They must live within the Grey Bruce OPP-policed area, be legally able to work in Canada, and successfully complete the recruitment and background clearance process.
Applicants are asked to submit a resume and a short essay (maximum 1,000 words) outlining why they want to participate in the program, and what strengths or perspectives they would bring to the position.
Submissions can be emailed to kody.lyons@opp.ca or dropped off in person at either of the following detachments:
Wiarton Detachment – 50 Berford Street, Wiarton
Chatsworth Detachment – 317057 Highway 6 & 10, Chatsworth
Deadline to apply: February 13, 2026
OPP say youth are encouraged to reflect on their motivations, community involvement, and personal growth goals when preparing their applications.
Supporters — whether family, teachers, or mentors — can help applicants prepare by reviewing interview basics, encouraging self-awareness, and emphasizing professionalism throughout the process.
For many participants, YIPI is a first step into public service and civic involvement; one that can leave a lasting impact long after the summer ends.
