Adam Shoalts to Give Nov 13 Talk on Lost Explorer, Arctic Journeys, and New Book
National bestselling author and explorer Adam Shoalts returns to Owen Sound on November 13 for a live talk and book launch, hosted by the Owen Sound Field Naturalists.

The Owen Sound Field Naturalists club (OSFN) is pleased to welcome back its November speaker, Adam Shoalts. His presentation will highlight his diverse skill set as a naturalist, historian, archaeologist, explorer, and storyteller—reflected in his reputation as “Canada’s Indiana Jones” and his success as a bestselling author.
National bestselling author Adam Shoalts returns to share stories from his renowned solo expeditions across Canada’s wilderness, including his nearly 4,000 km journey through the Arctic by paddle and portage.
His presentation will also feature the launch of his latest book, Vanished Beyond the Map: The Mystery of Lost Explorer Hubert Darrell. In it, Shoalts retraces the footsteps of Darrell—an explorer famed for his long solo treks from Alaska to Hudson Bay—on a quest to solve one of exploration history’s enduring cold cases.
Adam Shoalts is a professional adventurer and the Westaway Explorer-in-Residence at the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. His expeditions have included everything from mapping remote rivers to leading archaeological projects, but he is best known for his long solo journeys through Canada’s wilderness.
Named one of the “greatest living explorers” by CBC and dubbed “Canada’s Indiana Jones” by the Toronto Star, Shoalts is also a national bestselling author. His books include Where the Falcon Flies, The Whisper on the Night Wind, A History of Canada in 10 Maps, and Beyond the Trees: A Journey Alone Across Canada’s Arctic. All of these titles will be available for purchase at the event.
Shoalts holds a PhD in history from McMaster University, and in his spare time, he enjoys long walks in the woods.
