Acclaimed Cheng² Duo Returns to Leith Summer Festival Following International Tours
Celebrated sibling ensemble Cheng² Duo brings their internationally acclaimed performance to the Leith Summer Festival on July 13, in support of the Historic Leith Church.
The internationally acclaimed sibling duo, Cheng² Duo, will return to Grey County for a live performance at the Leith Summer Festival on July 13. The concert is set in the historic Leith Church, known for its exceptional acoustics and intimate atmosphere.
Comprised of cellist Bryan Cheng and pianist Silvie Cheng, the duo (pronounced Cheng Squared Duo) has performed together since childhood and officially formed their ensemble with a sold-out debut at Carnegie Hall in 2011.
In 2016, while on the CBC list of “30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30,” the talented duo opened the Leith Summer Festival. They are known for their expressive musicality, technical mastery, and commitment to both classical masterworks and contemporary repertoire.
This time, Bryan Cheng will perform on the rare 1696 “Bonjour” Stradivarius cello, on loan through the Canada Council for the Arts.
The siblings have recently completed international tours with appearances across North America, Europe, Asia, and South Africa, including venues such as the Frauenkirche Dresden, Flagey in Brussels, and the California Center for the Arts.
Their critically acclaimed recordings, including their latest album Portrait, nominated for a 2024 JUNO Award, have solidified their place in the classical music world. The duo also continues to innovate with cross-disciplinary collaborations and newly commissioned works.
Tickets for the Leith performance are available at roxytheatre.ca. All proceeds from the concert support the ongoing preservation of the Historic Leith Church, with the Leith Summer Festival operating as a registered charitable organization.
