Former Owen Sound Poet Laureate Richard-Yves Sitoski will launch his newest collection of poetry, A Current Through the Flesh, at The Rumpus Room in downtown Owen Sound at 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 2.
Hosted by The Ginger Press, this event will include readings from the new book as well as a conversation exploring art and artistry between Richard and local poetry enthusiast Catherine Huntley.
According to the publisher (Ronsdale Press), "A Current Through the Flesh weaves family history into an abrasive cloth, tailored into the full regalia of everyday life." The poetry is surprising and haunting as it reveals four generations of the flimsiness of male self-image, the perils of silence, and the latent power of women oppressed by toxic beliefs.
As well as being an accomplished poet, Richard is a songwriter, performance artist, playwright, and visual artist. Previous books include Butterfly Tongue, which became a one-person musical theatre piece he played to sold-out houses.
As well, his first collection of poems, brownfields, has just been reissued by The Ginger Press in an expanded 10+ anniversary edition.
Tickets for an evening with Richard-Yves Sitoski ($25) include a signed copy of A Current Through the Flesh and are available in-store at The Ginger Press (10:00-2:00, Tuesday-Saturday) and online at www.gingerpress.com.
