$2.57M Tara Infrastructure Project Targets Long-Term Water Service Improvements
Provincial and municipal funding has been approved for a $2.57 million infrastructure project on Elgin Avenue and Matilda Street in Tara, with construction planned for 2027.

The Municipality of Arran-Elderslie has secured funding from the Province of Ontario for a major water infrastructure upgrade in Tara.
The project, funded through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health & Safety Water Stream, will involve the full reconstruction of Elgin Avenue and Matilda Street.
The upgrades will replace aging water, wastewater, and stormwater systems in the area, with the goal of improving long-term reliability and public safety. The total estimated cost of the project is approximately $2.57 million.
According to the funding agreement, the Province will contribute up to $1,845,409—about 73% of the eligible costs—while the municipality will cover the remaining 27%. Engineering work is included in the municipality’s 2026 budget, with construction expected to begin in 2027.
MPP Paul Vickers (Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound) and Arran-Elderslie Mayor Steve Hammell acknowledged the importance of the investment for local infrastructure and long-term planning.
“We’re really pleased to see this investment move forward. Strengthening our water infrastructure is one of those essential projects that residents don’t always see day-to-day, but it makes a big difference for the future of our community,” Hammell said in a prepared statement.
The project aligns with Arran-Elderslie’s Strategic Plan, which emphasizes the need to maintain and protect critical infrastructure and natural assets. The municipality says more details will be provided as the project moves into the design and procurement phases.
